Feeling Pretty Postpartum

“Feeling pretty” and “postpartum” aren’t necessarily two things we associate with each other, but after going through labor, delivery and birth, I can definitely see the need for having something both pretty and functional. You just gave birth and in ways you feel absolutely on top of the world and the hormones pumping through your body make you feel radiant…..but that only lasts so long! I thought I was prepared for clothing postpartum, but I was NOT! Thanks to other mom bloggers, I knew to prepare myself mentally to feel and look 5-6 months pregnant immediately after birth. I had gotten this button down sleep shirt thinking it’d be perfect for nursing and perfect for my postpartum body. NOPE. Completely wrong. It felt tight and I was so uncomfortable in it. I took it right off and basically lived in nursing tanks and sweats. Not exactly things that make me feel super pretty. Yes, they were comfortable and definitely worked well for nursing, but I did not feel pretty! I know everyone is different, but now I know next time around that a pretty robe like this floral gem will be the perfect clothing item to take with me to the hospital.

Think about it: you can wear this when you’re pregnant and feel beautiful, you can wear this right after giving birth and feel beautiful (AND it will be easy to nurse in), and you can continue to wear it as your baby grows up. It’s the perfect clothing item to take you from pregnancy to motherhood! Because let’s face it, moms spend a lot of time caring for their babies and at least for me, the first 6 months I was in pure survival mode. I spent a lot of time at home nursing, sleeping, eating, and changing diapers. And drinking coffee. Lots of coffee πŸ˜‰  (Side note: I cut caffeine out during pregnancy and slowly reintroduced it after Charley was about 2-3 months old. I probably didn’t have to wait that long, but I was just being cautious).

And let’s be real, postpartum is an intense time full of raging hormones and big life changes. It’s a huge adjustment whether this is your first baby or your 5th! I was lucky enough not to have postpartum depression, but I’ve been shocked to find out just how common it really is. Even now (one year later) I have to get dressed, put makeup on and do my hair to feel normal; if I have too many days in a row where I’m a complete bum, I go crazy and feel so down. So in my book, feeling pretty postpartum is extremely important for mental health!!

Immediately postpartum, wear this gorgeous floral robe over some awesome nursing undergarments like this nursing bra and postpartum support leggings. I didn’t invest in good undergarments and I wish I had. Everyone tells you to, but I didn’t listen. So don’t make the same mistake I made! I will also be getting a belly wrap for extra support afterwards.

That really is a gorgeous robe. I bought a robe before I had my first baby, and although it’s nothing amazing (you’re making me want that floral one), it was nice to have something new and soft to wear so I could cover up easily and be comfy, even while I was in the hospital.

Thank you!! (Ha I have a thing for florals lately and especially floral robes!!) Well you were smart to have one!! I wish I had had one earlier – it definitely would make covering up easier and also be super comfy! (& pretty!!) xx

Thank you!! Yes, me too! Not something you think about, but now I’m going to be telling everyone to buy a PinkBlush robe for postpartum!! xx

I dread that stage post pregnancy. I lived in sweats the first time around but hope to be more confident this time. You look fabulous in that robe

Thank you so much!! And yes, I think many of us lived in sweats!! I think it’s a balance. I’m hoping next time around I’ll be more confident, too. I’m probably going to get a belly band of some sort for support in the tummy area!! And this robe will be perfect! xx

I love this robe! I definitely could have used something like this to go over the nursing tank and sweats I wore for the first 3 months, haha.

Hahaha me too!!! Even when worn over nursing tanks and sweats, it definitely would make you feel pretty!! ☺️❀️

Lovely photos and I love the robe! You are so right about feeling pretty and postpartum generally do not go together. I remember after I had my children, I always wore whatever fit and that was usually sweat pants! This is a great way to help mom feel good during the postpartum stage!

Thank you so much!! Yes, I lived in sweats and yoga pants and nursing tanks for a long time! Slowly started transitioning to “regular” clothes and tried to make more of an effort to feel pretty. I was amazed at how great it made me feel. And this robe is ideal because no one wants to wear anything tight right after having a baby!!! πŸ˜‰

Love that beautiful robe so much! I had such a hard time feeling comfortable in my body post baby. I’m now 7 months pp and just starting to feel normal again.

Oh thank you!! xx And I hear ya!! I think it was around 7 months pp for me that I started to feel more comfortable and more myself. It’s slow going!! I think next time I will get a belly band of some sort for extra support and some assistance in the tummy area!! πŸ˜‰

First of all, your photos are so gorgeous! To be honest, I didn’t give postpartum one thought. And I wish that I had! I lived in sweats and nursing tanks, and that is a really hard habit to break! Not that it’s a bad thing, but I did have days where I longed to feel pretty! Thank you so much for sharing! I love that robe and what a fantastic idea!

Oh thank you so so much! ❀️ And I feel ya girl. I lived in sweats/yoga pants and nursing tanks for a LONG time. Slowly but surely learning to make a bit of an effort — it has helped me so much to feel pretty!! xx

The robe is so beautiful! I can tell that you feel gorgeous in it! I lived in yoga shorts and nursing camis for probably a year. : Next time, I will try my hardest to make myself feel pretty.

Haha been there!! I’m realizing how important it is to feel pretty afterwards, even if it’s just a pretty floral robe!! ☺️ Next time!! xx

  12. September 13, 2016 / 6:19 pm

That robe is adorable!! I ‘m not really a robe person, but I think I would wear that!
It is so important to feel good and pretty while in the postpartum period. Little things like a cute robe can make us feel so much better about ourselves. I’m going to have to go check out Pink Blush now. πŸ™‚
